Chitrannam or Lemon Rice is a delicious South Indian dish, commonly made for breakfast or lunch. I can eat it @ any time of the day though! This zestful rice is ready in a blink and is super tasty!

- Rice (cooked) : 11/2 cup
- Chana dal (bengal gram dal) : 1 tsp
- Groundnuts : 1 tsp
- Curry leaves : 1 sprig
- Red chillies (dry) : 1-2
- Green chilies : 2-3 (optional)
- Lemon juice : 2 tbsp
- Red chilly powder : 1 tsp
- Turmeric : 1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida (hing powder) : 1/4 tsp
- Oil : 1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Mustard seeds for tempering
Method :
- Heat oil in a pan. Once hot add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter.
- Add chana dal and stir for few seconds. Add groundnuts and stir till golden brown.
- Now, add curry leaves, red chilies and green chilies. Add red chilly powder, turmeric and asafoetida and mix well.
- Mix in the cooked rice and salt and mix really well.
- Add lemon juice and mix. Adjust sourness as per desired.
- Serve warm!
