Lemon Rice

Chitrannam or Lemon Rice is a delicious South Indian dish, commonly made for breakfast or lunch. I can eat it @ any time of the day though! This zestful rice is ready in a blink and is super tasty!

Ingredients :

  • Rice (cooked) : 11/2 cup
  • Chana dal (bengal gram dal) : 1 tsp
  • Groundnuts : 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves : 1 sprig
  • Red chillies (dry) : 1-2
  • Green chilies : 2-3 (optional)
  • Lemon juice : 2 tbsp
  • Red chilly powder : 1 tsp
  • Turmeric : 1/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida (hing powder) : 1/4 tsp
  • Oil : 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Mustard seeds for tempering

Method : 






  • Heat oil in a pan. Once hot add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter.
  • Add chana dal and stir for few seconds. Add groundnuts and stir till golden brown.
  • Now, add curry leaves, red chilies and green chilies. Add red chilly powder, turmeric and asafoetida and mix well.
  • Mix in the cooked rice and salt and mix really well.
  • Add lemon juice and mix. Adjust sourness as per desired.
  • Serve warm!
