Pesarattu

Pesarattu is a kind of savory crepe made with a combination of whole green gram and rice. This scrumptious dosa like dish is a popular breakfast item in Andhra cuisine. I make spicy onion chutney with it which goes really well!

Ingredients for Pesarattu :

  • Green gram (whole moong) : 1 glass
  • Rice : 1/2 glass
  • Ginger : 1 inch
  • Cumin seeds : 1 tsp
  • Green chillies : 2 (as per required hotness)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil : for greasing

Method :

  • Soak whole moong and rice overnight.
  • Coarse grind whole moong, rice, ginger, green chillies and cumin seeds together. Sprinkle salt to taste.
  • Add very little water to make batter of dosa consistency.
  • Heat a nonstick griddle, pour a ladle full of Pesarattu batter over it and spread.
  • Sprinkle oil over the edges and flip it and cook till crisp.
  • Serve hot with chutney of your choice. It is also served with upma over it...a typical Andhra tradition.
